Oil Bomb Fuse Is Lit

(Christian Gallery News Service, August 22, 2004)  Hidden beneath the daily parade of international news stories about the price of crude oil is another story that must be told.  It is a story about deceit among the oil rich nations of this world, deceit that has set the world up for a calamity of Biblical proportions.  Specifically, the deceit involves false information about the world’s oil reserves.  When the world wakes up and realizes that every bit of information about oil reserves cannot be trusted and that the world is in imminent danger of serious oil supply disruptions, the repercussions of the oil reserve lies will transform every nation on earth and will open the door for Satan to usher in the One World Government we have heard so much about.

I understand that is a mind-boggling forecast.  But we should not be surprised that such a world changing calamity is on the horizon.  If we had thought seriously--as I have been trying to get the world to do for the past twenty years--about what the Apostle Paul told us in Romans 1, we would have known that something like this time of judgment had to befall this generation all over the world if God was to be proven True.  For not since the Great Flood has there been such a similar time of haughtiness and general bold and mocking rebellion against the One, True God.

18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. 20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. 28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. Romans 1:18-32

All we have to do is look at the world around us today and we can see that every nation on earth--chief among them the United States of America--has refused to obey the Laws of the God defined in Holy Scripture.  Instead of worshipping God by honoring His Law, all the governments of the world have turned against Him and His Law.  Replacing the worship of God with the worship of the will of the majority, replacing obedience to the laws of God with obedience to the “laws of humanity,” the nations of the world have taunted God, mocked God, and left Him no option but to show the world what happens when the world refuses to obey The Creator of the universe.

The response of most Christians has consisted of gathering together into their houses of worship and there entering into self-serving and deceitful mirages of worship grunting out the name of Jesus while utterly ignoring what the Lord Jesus Christ taught about His priorities.

So let us gaze upon the coming harvest of the grapes of Wrath we the people have sown.

THE RESOURCE WARS HAVE BEGUN WITH IRAQ

With the end of the Cold War, during which divisions were created and alliances formed along ideological lines (Communist vs. Christian or Communist vs. Capitalist), economic competition now determines international relations. We have entered the “Secular” age.  Where before ideas about God were the driving forces in human and international affairs, God is now effectively dead to most of the institutional powers in the modern age and another driving force has emerged as the catalyst for globe-shaping change.  (Admittedly, there are ragtag terrorist bands scattered across the planet claiming to be trying to defend the Law of God, but they are presently only a minor annoyance to the advancing secular age.) Raw, brute self-interest, clothed with whatever remains of the tattered and blood-stained rags of reason, is now the engine that drives the “Secular” age which in turn drives human affairs.

As the world's natural resources--oil, timber, minerals, water, food—begin to diminish or even disappear, competition for ownership or access to such important economic assets has intensified.

Take oil for example.  About four-fifths of the world's known oil reserves lie in politically unstable or contested regions similar to Iraq.  According to international security expert Michael T. Klare, professor of peace and security at Hampshire College, Massachusetts: "We are entering an era of resource war." Klare, author of Resource Wars: The New Landscape of Global Conflict, writes: "The pressure on global petroleum supplies is likely to prove especially severe. The production of petroleum products is not likely to keep pace with soaring demand; periodic shortages will occur more and more often."

The period described by Klare is happening before your eyes if you will see it.  The present Iraqi War is proof positive.  But to see it you will have to look harder than usual because the information you are receiving from your “trusted” authorities cannot be trusted.

To understand the Iraqi War you first must understand clearly that all the information you have received about “proven oil reserves” is bogus.  When you finally see the real crisis this world faces over oil, you will understand why the Iraqi War will be seen by history as the first in a string of Resource Wars.

So let me put the facts in perspective.

US GOVERNMENT ADMITS OIL RESERVE INFORMATION CANNOT BE TRUSTED

The “Energy Information Administration” (web site at http://www.eia.doe.gov/) tells us that it provides the “Official Energy Statistics from the U.S. government.”  That makes it the place to go for the scoop on oil, right?  Wrong.  The federal government agency responsible for disseminating the “official” information about oil reserves issues the following disclaimer:

Important Note on Sources of Reserve Estimates

Reserve estimates for crude oil and natur
al gas are very difficult to develop.  As a convenience to the public, EIA makes available these crude oil and natural gas reserve estimates from other sources, but it does not certify these data. Please carefully note the sources of the data when using and citing estimates of crude oil and natural gas reserves.

The point raised is obvious:  If the federal government of the USA cannot “certify” the information provided about oil reserves, who in the world can do so?

Charts like the one below are provided by every oil company and oil agency on the planet.

How do we know the chart tells the truth?

JANE’S SAYS WORLD OIL CRISIS LOOMS

Jane’s Information Group is a good place to start trying to put together the geo-theological-political puzzle that is the world today.  Founded in 1898, Jane’s has long been at the forefront of those who provide intelligence and analysis on national and international defense, security and risk developments. Jane’s delivers intelligence acquired by an unique worldwide network of independent analysts. Governments, militaries, business leaders and academics in over 180 countries rely on Jane’s providing timely and insightful information on threat and security issues.

On 21 April, 2004, Jane’s announced, ”World oil crisis looms.”

Jane’s explained why the crisis was coming.  The oil industry has been gripped by scandal since Royal Dutch/Shell twice this year downgraded its proven oil reserves by 20 per cent, or nearly 4bn barrels. Shell may not be aloneOther companies and even governments have hyped up the estimates of how much oil they have, which is a vital factor in measuring their economic health. If exaggeration proves to be widespread, it would have an immense impact on the Middle East, whose economic weight is almost totally dependent on oil and natural gas…Geologists and analysts have been saying for some time that estimates of global oil reserves may be dangerously exaggerated. If you take oil prices currently at around US$37 a barrel, the highest for nearly 15 years, US petrol prices at record levels and you add terrorist attacks and diminishing supplies, you have a recipe for inflation and economic slowdown. The question of reserves becomes a much more important factor.”

Jane’s concluded, “As the world's natural resources shrink and global warming changes the environment, competition for unimpeded access to them has intensified and will continue to do so. About four-fifths of the world's known oil reserves lie in politically unstable or contested regions.” [Empasis mine].

STATEMENTS ABOUT OIL REVERVES ARE DOUBLE-TALK, NONSENSE OR GOOBLEDYGOOK

Jane’s says, “…statements of global oil reserves may be dangerously exaggerated.”   Actually, as the facts below will demonstrate, statements about “global oil reserves” are literally unproven nonsense.

Take a look at the language used by the Responsible Authorities on Planet Earth to describe oil reserves.  Anytime you find that Ruling Authorities must employ absolutely incomprehensible language, language that uses such twisted and inbred concepts as Reserves, Proven Reserves, Final Proven Recoverable Reserves, Unproven Reserves, Possible Reserves, Probable Reserves, and, last but not least, Hypothetical Resources, you really must be prepared to have the clothes taken off your body and be sexually abused without even so much as the hint of foreplay.  *See Chart At End of Article For the Complete Glossary of Oil Reserve Terms.

Think for a moment about the concept called “unproven reserves.”  We all know “proven reserves” would consist of oil that has been “proven” to lie in a pool somewhere on earth.  But what, you ask, is the difference between proven reserves and unproven reserves?  Professor Andrew Ford, head of the Program in Environmental Science and Regional Planning at Washington State University amplified the definitions given in the chart above, “Proven reserves refers to previously discovered gas [or oil] that is available for production. Unproven reserves is a larger, more speculative quantity. It stands for total resources that might be discovered in the future.”

Say what?!

“…unproven reserves…might be discovered in the future…?”

That concept called “might” could logically include any number.  We “might” discover an infinite amount of oil, but all the facts demonstrate the earth has been investigated for over a century with ever more sensitive technology and the idea that there is a huge amount of “unproven reserves” is presently impossible to support.

Okay, so we toss out the concept called  “unproven reserves”.  What about “proven reserves?”   How do we know the actual amount of oil on planet earth?

WHO’S GUARDING THE STORE FOR US?  WHO’S MAKING SURE OIL RESERVE FIGURES ARE ACCURATE?

Two guys who work for the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) are the only employees we the people have on our payroll who have a job description that reads: “Make sure the proven oil reserve figures are accurate.”

In a 3/12/2004 Wall Street Journal article entitled, “Tiny SEC Staff Monitors Data on Oil Reserves” by Michael Schroeder, we are told, “Hundreds of lawyers and accountants at the Securities and Exchange Commission scour company annual reports to make sure the numbers add up. But when it comes to double-checking the oil and natural-gas reserves claimed by oil companies in their filings, the job is left to just two staff petroleum engineers.”

That’s right.  The single, foundational fact upon which the entire economic edifice called the USA depends—its oil lifeline--is verified, validated and certified by two guys at the SEC!

The WSJ article explained more about the two guys holding the world’s oil owners accountable, “Because of their expertise, the two men are key participants in the SEC's investigation into whether Royal Dutch/Shell Group may have intentionally inflated the reserves it reported in recent annual reports. The probe follows Royal Dutch Shell's admission in January that it overstated its reserves by 20% -- the equivalent of 3.9 billion barrels…For years, producers and regulators have debated how best to determine what should be classified as "proven" oil and natural-gas reserves: deposits with "reasonable certainty" that can be expected to be produced. Oil companies gripe that regulators continue to use a standard set 25 years ago to determine reserves without taking into consideration three-dimensional seismic data and other new technologies…Since they joined the SEC in 1999, petroleum engineers Ronald Winfrey and James Murphy have bluntly argued in public forums that the industry's reliance on new technologies had caused many reserve write-downs over the past few years. "Prove it to us or take it out," Mr. Murphy barked at a Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers Forum in October. "Investors do not believe the reserve numbers anyway," he added…Despite the combative nature of their jobs, the two engineers generally are respected by the industry. "They do a credible job but are constrained by the rules," said Charles Gleeson, president of the engineers society and head of a small engineering firm in Midland, Texas,” the article concluded.

At least private oil companies have two guys at the SEC validating their oil reserve information…

NOBODY VALIDATES OIL RESERVE INFORMATION PUT OUT BY NATIONS

Those two guys at the SEC have no power or authority to verify the oil reserve figures put out by nations that do not allow private industry to own oil.  In those nations (which control about 90% of the oil on earth) NOBODY can know with certainty whether the oil reserves reported can be trusted.

Why?  The methods used to determine the size of their oil reserves are closely guarded national secrets.

THE VERY INFORMATION THAT OIL RICH NATIONS WOULD BE TEMPTED TO LIE ABOUT IS NOT REQUIRED TO BE PROVEN

Few facts on earth are more important than the amount of oil available to the world.  Yet information about oil that is provided by national governments is presently impossible to verify.  And nations have even more reasons to lie about reserves than private companies.

The SEC monitors publicly traded oil companies because those publicly traded companies have many reasons to exaggerate their “proven reserves.”  The net worth of an oil company is figured exactly the way a gold mining company is figured: by calculating how much oil it owns that has not yet been sold on the market.  “Proven reserves” is the calculation that, more than any other, determines how much money the stock in a publicly traded company like Exxon, etc. would reasonably be worth.  Is it any wonder that Royal Dutch Shell’s officers and engineers were tempted to totally distort the proven reserves they had available?

Nations who do not allow their oil to be owned by publicly traded companies or as in the case of Russia, nations that theoretically allow their oil to be publicly traded but actually are in the process of nationalizing their oil, those nations have reasons to exaggerate their “proven reserves” exactly like private companies.  But unlike private companies which at least have the two overworked guys at the SEC glancing in their direction, nations can declare all the facts about their oil reserves to be “State Secrets” and simply tell the world whatever they think the world should hear.

This has to be seen to be most dangerous to the long term well being of humanity.  Why?  The governments of oil-producing states have even more incentive to lie about their reserves than publicly traded companies.  If the world thinks a government, say like Saudi Arabia, has 30% of the known reserves of oil on earth, the world will bow when it comes calling…unless, of course, the world comes calling with a gun in its hand.

Generally speaking, though, the more oil a nation can claim, the more influence they will have on the energy market and the more influence they will have on other world affairs as well.  Their oil becomes a bargaining chip that allows them access to every table on earth where important matters of State are being negotiated.

FOR DECADES THE OIL RESERVE FIGURES HAVE BEEN BOGUS

Examine the chart below and you can see for yourself why no reasonably well informed person can trust the “proven oil reserve” information they receive.  To keep the chart simple, only five nations are considered but a complete chart would include most of the oil producing nations, including the USA.

In the chart, the red boldface numbers with a question mark are considered spurious reserve claims.

Examine the numbers and you can see for yourself why the numbers are suspect.  In Iraq, the “proven reserves” nearly doubled between 1983 and 1984.  Then they doubled again between 1987 and 1988.  How did the world get this information?  Saddam Hussein told us, that’s how.   Saddam somehow lied about everything else but the oil reserve information he provided is still used as the basis for oil reserve information from Iraq.

A similar thing happened in Kuwait in 1985: their “proven reserves” almost doubled.  But even more suspicious, their “proven reserves” remained constant at 91.92 billion barrels in 1987, 1988, and 1989.  Even though they were selling billions of barrels of oil, their “proven” reserves never changed.

Finally, Saudi Arabia claims to have added nearly 100 billion barrels of oil to the world’s proven reserve between 1989 and 1990.

Try as they might, none of these nations have ever proven their oil reserve claims are true.

*All Figures Are in Billion Barrel Increments

The chart above suggests that a very large percentage--fully 45%--of all the reserve claims is questionable.  In other words, the chart raises a serious question about whether the world’s “proven oil reserves” are bogus statistics manufactured for political reasons and have no basis in fact.

Imagine what the chart would look like if it contained all the oil producing countries on earth.  Each of those countries has examples of similar spurious “proven oil reserve” data.

Obviously this article is suggesting that the world’s oil industry has lied about oil reserve figures in exactly the way Royal Dutch/Shell has been proven to lie.  That leads to this question:

WHY WOULD COUNTRIES LIE ABOUT THEIR “PROVEN RESERVES?”

The countries in the chart above are members of the Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).  OPEC takes into account a country’s reserves when fixing production quotas: the more oil you say you have, the more you’re allowed to sell.  For instance, if Saudi Arabia is understood to have 258 billion barrels of oil as it reported in 1990 instead of 169 billion barrels as it reported in 1989, then Saudia Arabia could reasonably pump 40% more oil each year without diminishing the number of years Saudia Arabia would be the world’s main oil supplier.

Each OPEC nation had a similar incentive to falsely inflate their oil reserve figures.  As the chart above proves, beginning in the mid-1980s when OPEC decided to factor in member states' reserves when determining their market share, the figures for global oil reserves almost immediately were raised in all the OPEC member states. As cartel members such as Algeria, Libya and Nigeria competed for bigger production quotas within OPEC's overall output ceilings to reflect growth in capacity, they had many reasons to exaggerate their proven reserves.

Market reaction has a big role in
shaping oil industry…Even to tempting lies.

But every nation on earth has many other reasons to falsely inflate their oil reserve figures.  Take for example the $50 Billion loan from the USA to Mexico in December of 1994.  At the time the Mexican economy was on the verge of collapse.  The Mexican Peso had fallen by around 35%. As a result, the Mexican Central Bank's international reserves fell from $29 billion to $5 billion, a drop of nearly 80%. To stave off a collapse of the Mexican economy, President Clinton signed a $50 billion "Emergency Stabilization Package" loan to the Mexican government on 31 January 1995. The collateral for the loan was Mexico's pledge of revenues from its future petroleum exports.  Unless Mexico was believed to have huge “proven oil reserves” there was no collateral of that loan.  But while Mexico was seen to have huge oil reserves, there was every reason to expect Mexico could repay the loan.

These are only a couple of the main reasons countries might lie about their “proven oil reserves.”  As the price of oil moves inexorably upward, the reasons to lie about reserves will multiply in direct proportion to the increase in the price of oil.

FOR YEARS, MANY IN THE OIL INDUSTRY HAVE BEEN WARNING THAT OIL RESERVE FIGURES WERE FALSE

Energy analysts have long questioned the reserves claimed by the world’s oil producers. Veteran British geologist Colin Campbell, chairman of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas and a trustee of the Oil Depletion Analysis Center in London, believes that Gulf producers' known reserves are really considerably lower than they claim.  And while Saudi Arabia's national oil company Saudi Aramco claims to have 257.5 billion barrels, its recently retired executive vice president Sadad Al Husseini has said there is in fact "130 billion barrels of proven reserves".  French geologist Jean Laherrere, who has over four decades of service in the world wide energy industry, says, "OPEC will not change their reporting as long as quotas will be in force. Only when the supply becomes short and quotas useless will OPEC accept to report real estimates."

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT THAT WE HAVE ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PROVEN OIL RESERVES?

Short answer:  Have you ever ridden a horse or a bicycle to work?

Long Answer:  Everyone in modern life depends upon oil for transportation.  Oil is the single commodity that literally determines the value of all other commodities.  Uncertainty about proven oil reserves raises unavoidable questions about the availability of oil.  If there is serious uncertainty about the availability of oil, the pressure on the price of whatever oil is actually out there will be subject to the temptation to panic, become exactly like the pressure exerted by a starving mob outside an unguarded food warehouse.

Responsible world leadership will do whatever can be done to remove or ameliorate the causes of panic, especially when that panic can have the most devastating worldwide consequences.  The only way responsible world leadership can do that is by providing trustworthy figures about proven oil reserves.  Until such trustworthy information becomes available, the price of oil will become subject to the pressures created by the few things we do know for certain.

WHILE FACTS ABOUT PROVEN OIL RESERVES ARE UNTRUSTWORTHY, FACTS ABOUT OIL AVAILABILITY ARE CRYSTAL CLEAR TO THE CONSUMER

When people realize that the existing figures about “proven oil reserves” cannot be trusted, they will immediately begin to focus on the things that can be known in hopes of finding some basis for understanding the truth about the future availability of oil.

Presently there are only two mechanisms for obtaining trustworthy information about oil availability in this world.  1.  Physically go, or send someone, to watch the oil tankers being loaded with crude oil throughout the world.  Make sure it is actually oil that is being pumped into the tankers and not some bogus liquid, and then count the oil tankers lying low in the water when they leave the oil producing nations.  That’s the way people who invest big in the oil industry actually get their facts about oil.  2.  If you can’t do that, you can find out about the reality of oil reserves by watching what happens when you pull up to a gasoline pump.  The fact that gasoline comes out of the pump when you push the proper buttons at the tank proves crude oil is being produced in this world.  If there is no gasoline at the tank, or if the price of that gasoline begins to go up dramatically, there is a very good reason to believe the world’s supply of oil is nearing the place where you will have to get in line for oil.

When the day comes that you have to line up for oil, you will find that the forces in front of you in line are so voracious for oil and/or so powerful that there is not enough oil left for you and yours.

LOOK AT THE SECOND WORLD WAR TO LEARN WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SERIOUS PRESSURE IS PUT ON THE SUPPLY OF OIL

Did you know that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor because the US government shut off their supply of oil?

The following passage will help you understand what can happen when oil supplies are interrupted: “In 1940, Japan occupied French Indochina (Vietnam) upon agreement with the French Vichy government, and joined the Axis powers Germany and Italy. These actions intensified Japan's conflict with the United States and Great Britain which reacted with an oil boycott. The resulting oil shortage and failures to solve the conflict diplomatically made Japan decide to capture the oil rich Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) and to start a war with the US and Great Britain.”  * from (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2129.html) as well as every other history book.

THE USA DEPENDENCE ON OVERSEAS OIL

There is an eerie resemblance between Japan’s dependence on foreign oil prior to the Second World War and the USA’s dependence today.

Each day every American citizen is dependent upon oil being imported from the countries listed here.  Presently there is no real verification for the amount of oil those countries actually have in the ground.

Any disruption in the delivery of oil from any of those countries raises the real possibility that their oil reserves have been depleted to the point where they will begin to hoard their oil for themselves.

Panic, even if it is the controlled panic of a skyrocketing price of oil, is to be expected under those circumstances.

The point cannot be overstated.  The vast majority must have personal access to needed petroleum products or the economic wellbeing of every modern economy is destroyed within a short time after oil ceases to flow.

As this companion article explains, the USA invaded Iraq because since WWII the USA has been the nation responsible for guaranteeing stability in the Middle East.  With the emergence of the USA as the world’s Hegemon, there is no valid reason to think the USA will refrain from similar actions anywhere on earth when USA oil supplies are seriously threatened.

LIES ABOUT OIL RESERVES OPEN THE DOOR TO REASONABLE SUSPICION ABOUT FUTURE ACCESS TO OIL

As long as people believed the bogus “statistics” about “proven oil reserves,” minor and temporary disruptions in the flow of crude oil could pass without creating a major world crisis.  But when it becomes clear that people cannot trust the amount of oil that is in the ground, any disruption raises the specter of the end of oil production.  Hoarding, riots, depression, and all the accompanying signs of social implosion follow.  For this reason alone, people need to have some sense of certainty that there is enough oil to go around for the foreseeable future.  If that faith begins to disappear, there is nothing to prevent an explosion in the price of oil.  The world’s economy cannot long survive such a disruptive situation.

RECAP: There is no mechanism presently available on earth to validate the information being provided to the world about existing oil reserves.   This information must be available if we are to avoid panic-driven increases in the price of oil and the world-changing events that accompany such panic.  There is a solution to this problem.

THE RECIPE FOR AVOIDING INTERNATIONAL PANIC OVER OIL

The only possible way to control the price of oil is to arrive at a definition of “PROVEN OIL RESERVES” where the amount of reserves is a self-evident fact clearly demonstrable to any interested party.  If the whole world knew there was sufficient oil reserves there would be no basis for panic.  Should short term interruptions in the delivery of oil occur, say from terrorist attack, there would be no basis for panic because it would just be a matter of time before the Super Power[s] restored oil by eliminating the cause of the temporary delivery interruption.

But we cannot presently remove the temptation to panic because of two problems:  1. The size of actual reserves held by a nation are a closely guarded State secret.

But even if every nation in the world had a sudden change of heart and decided to let everyone come and measure the amount of oil in their ground we would then run immediately into problem number 2.  Oil measuring technology is presently incapable of accurately measuring the world’s proven oil reserves.

THE PROBLEMS IN MEASURING OIL RESERVES

Even the nations who have oil have real problems knowing exactly how much oil they have in the ground.  Pretend you have an oil well that produces oil.  How would  you determine how much oil your well has tapped into?  You could stick a rod into your well’s hole in the ground and when it hit something solid you could pull the rod back up and measure the length of oil on the rod.  But all that would really tell you is how deep the oil was directly below your well’s hole.  To accurately determine the total volume of oil you would need to drill wells all over the place thereby mapping the size and depth of the oil reservoir.  Either that, or you could come up with equipment that would measure the oil without having to drill more wells.

THE INVENTION OF SEISMIC SURVEYS AND WHY THEY DON’T SHOW US PROVEN OIL RESERVES

In the petroleum industry, the most common method of obtaining a clear picture of the Earth's subsurface is seismic exploration. Seismic exploration uses physical shockwaves to penetrate the earth and record its contents—up to a point.  Onshore, the vibrations come from specially designed vibrator trucks that "thump" the ground (and formerly, from a dynamite explosion).

Seismic exploration creates a picture of the subsurface by recording vibrations as they bounce back from geologic formations. The resulting data is called seismic lines.

There is a problem with seismic surveys: a seismic shot does not “see” the oil, it only finds the bottom of the well.  Seismic exploration can spot empty places (reservoirs) inside the earth but they cannot “see” what those empty places contain.  For this reason, seismic exploration sometimes leads oilmen to go and drill down into one of those empty places inside the earth without finding oil.  Oilmen, not known for their poetic qualities, call such places “dry holes.”

Think about this limitation of seismic survey technology and you will see why seismic technology might be great at helping find oil but it is almost useless if our goal is to find a way to know for a fact how much oil actually lies in the ground.  A new technology is required if we are to record the actual “proven reserves” of oil on planet earth.

NEW TECHNOLOGY OVERCOMES THE DEFECTS OF SEISMIC SURVEY TECHNOLOGY

A Wall Street Journal article by Susan Warren on August 17, 2004 about electromagnetic technology opened a window into the future of oil reserve verification.  Entitled, “Exxon Mobil Bets on New Oil-Hunting Technology,” the article describes the way electromagnetic technology can be used to precisely measure the volume of oil in the ground.

The article stated, “…While seismic surveys could reveal a lot about rocks and where oil might be, electromagnetics had the alluring potential of seeing the oil itself [emphasis mine].”

This technology is not some future hoped for event.  The ability to map entire oil fields using electromagnetic technology is now a reality.  The WSJ article explained how an entire oil field was mapped and verified, “Afloat in a research vessel off the coast of West Africa in early 2002, Exxon Mobil Corp. geophysicist Len Srnka took his laptop, locked himself inside his cabin and peering into oil’s future…Exxon Mobil had drilled off the coast of Angola since 1997 and knew exactly where the oil was.  So, could Dr. Srnka’s electromagnetic contraption show what Exxon already knew?  It could, mapping the oil with unerring precision,” the article concluded.

WORLD CAN ACTUALLY PROVE OIL RESERVE FIGURES

With the development of electromagnetic technology, the world now has the means to totally eliminate the confusion and uncertainty created by the totally untrustworthy and unverifiable existing estimates of oil reserves.  In fact, using electromagnetic mapping, for the first time the world will actually have the ability to know what proven oil reserves will be available to the world.

THE NEED TO OBTAIN ACCURATE FIGURES ABOUT PROVEN OIL RESERVES WILL USHER IN ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT

If you think about the facts revealed here, you will see that no government on earth presently can know for certain how much oil is available on this planet.  But technology is now available that could measure the exact volume of oil in every oil field on earth.

It does not take a prophet to understand that when the price of oil becomes subject to a panic-filled oil market driven by the untrustworthy and ultimately unknowable supply of oil on this planet, every nation on earth will begin to realize the need to arrive at a secure global understanding about proven oil reserves.

All it will take is a few more “War on Terrorism” moves like the Iraqi War and the world will begin to realize that the United States of America cannot be trusted to be the overseer and comptroller of the world’s oil.  Already there are conversations behind the scenes in countries all over the world suggesting that the United Nations, not the United States of America, should be the rightful comptroller of all the world’s oil resources, and that the United Nations must be given that power if World War III is to be avoided.

This article is a foreteller.  Obviously many events must occur before the facts contained herein become self-evident.  But keep your eyes open and you will see that those events are on their way, and nothing in this world can stop them.  The untrustworthiness of statistics about the “proven oil reserves” coupled with the fact of rapidly accelerating use of crude oil reserves is driving this world rapidly toward World War III just as surely as similar events drove the peoples of the earth toward World War II.

Watch those events closely.  Finally, it is the argument of events that is the loudest argument of all.  If you have read this far, events will prove you have not wasted your time.  For at least you will not be surprised when you see it happening.

Reserves are the fraction of mineral and fossil fuel resources or geothermical resources known to be present in the earth that has been the subject of some measure of appraisal.  There are proven, unproven, probable, possible and hypothetical reserves.

Proven Reserves are the estimated quantities, at a specific date, which analysis of geologic and engineering data demonstrates with reasonable certainty, to be recoverable in the future from known deposits under the economic and operating conditions at the same date.

Final Proven Recoverable Reserves (Final Cumulative Production) are the total reserves produced when a fossil fuel or a mineral deposit has finally ceased production.

Unproven Reserves are the estimated quantities at a specific date, which analysis of geological engineering data indicates might be economically recoverable from already discovered deposits, with a sufficient degree of probability to suggest their existence.  They may be further categorized as Probable Reserves or Possible Reserves.

Probable Reserves are the estimated quantities at a specific date, which analysis of geological en engineering data indicates might be economically recoverable from already discovered deposits, with a reasonable high degree of probability, which suggests the likelihood of their existence, but not sufficient to be classified as proven.

Possible Reserves are the estimated quantities at a specific date, which analysis of geological en engineering data indicates might be economically recoverable from already discovered deposits, with only a moderate degree of probability, which suggests the chance of their existence, but not sufficient to be classified as probable.

Hypothetical Resources are mineral or fossil fuel resources that may reasonably be conjectured to exist as a result of appraisal made during the initial phase in the exploration of a region on the basis of the first data available or first discoveries.
