Chapter Ten
GOVERNMENT AND PEACE OF MIND
The primary responsibility of government is to provide citizens with peace of mind. Now I know at first glance that sounds ridiculous. To define the purpose of government in terms of a psychological goal seems to deny the more obvious physical necessities of life like physical survival. To understand what I am pointing at, you must see the relationship between peace of mind and survival itself.
Peace of mind does not exist when an individual perceives survival to be threatened. Peace of mind stands as the first line of defense against threats to survival. The relationship between peace of mind and survival can be grasped when we realize that threats to survival can take many forms, some of which are difficult to define when first sensed. Even when individuals cannot precisely identify exactly what is threatening their survival, they can know they are threatened because they have lost their peace of mind. Even though we do not understand exactly what is threatening us, the loss of our peace of mind is clear evidence that something is out to get us. Conversely, the presence of peace of mind is perceived by the individual as the final evidence that all the necessary aids to survival are in place.
Once we see the role peace of mind plays in our survival, we can understand why peace of mind is the key to a viable self-image. It is simply impossible to sustain a viable self-image without peace of mind because the peace of mind is the evidence the individual looks at that confirms them in the idea that they have found a viable self-image for themselves. In other words, only the presence of peace of mind can allow a person to be satisfied they possess a viable self-image.
Let me give you an example of how government provides a viable self-image by providing peace of mind. At the psychological core of every person on earth is the knowledge that only through remaining connected to land that can provide us with food do we have a chance for physical survival. Peace of mind cannot exist in people who perceive themselves to be threatened in their access to such land, nor can such people possess a viable self-image without access to viable land. Since government is actually the mechanism created by people to provide access to viable land, government provides a viable self-image and peace of mind to the citizens of that government when government does what is necessary to convince the citizens that it has a plan that will allow the citizens of that government to continue having access to the life-giving land. As government goes about the business of doing what is necessary to demonstrate to its citizens that their government has the power to hold on to the land, the citizens, if convinced, find peace of mind being restored, and begin to perceive themselves to possess a viable self-image. In the absence of the ability to provide its citizens with peace of mind and a viable self-image, government fails in its primary responsibility. Chaos begins to reign.
Unless an individual or a nation has peace of mind, every other variety of peace available on this planet disappears. The individual or the nation begins to pace and fret and eventually lashes out in unreasonable efforts to grab anything that might theoretically provide the essential missing ingredient to the concoction called a Way of Life.
Peace with God is the key to peace of mind. A government that tries to justify itself without reference to God cannot provide peace of mind. Only when a government can convince its citizens that they have the right and the power to hold the land can the citizens possess peace of mind. The Founders of the United States of America understood this all important fact. They were responsible Fathers. They knew what people have to have if they are going to have access to a way of life. The Founders knew the necessity of government, and they knew that peace with God was the key to a government that could sustain a people's hope for life.
For this reason, when the Founders created the government of the United States of America, they laid the foundation of that government on words designed to explain exactly where this government stood in relationship to the plan of God for government on this planet. As citizens of the United States of America, you have a duty to understand the relationship between the idea of god and government.
GOD AND GOVERNMENT
Every government on the face of the earth will always have to define its reason for being by referring to the will of god. It is impossible for government to do otherwise because god is a word that stands for whatever people decide actually controls reality. The concept we call god and the concept we call government are inseparable concepts because they both refer to exactly the same aspect of reality; namely, that which controls the world in which we live. Whatever any individual decides to define as that which justifies government is always, inescapably, whatever that individual holds to be the will of god. And whatever the individual defines as the will of god will always be that which justifies the existence of government.
At first glance, this train of thought might appear patently foolish because it seems to ignore the fact that there are a lot of people who are absolutely convinced that they don't believe in the existence of god. Government, they believe in; god, they don't.
To understand me, you've got to see that I am using the word god in a generic sense. The word god stands for whatever people decide actually controls the world around us. Separate the word god from any Holy Book God context and see if the word still has meaning. I say it does: the word god stands for whatever any person decides actually controls things. If you grasp what I am pointing at when I use the word god, you should see that it is impossible that any person would not believe in god. Even the most mentally retarded human being sees that things are controlled. Even an infant senses the controlling forces around them. Their cries are controlled by hunger. In the sense in which I am using the word, that hunger is god to the infant. It is only when we understand this use of the concept called god that we begin to understand why every government on the face of the earth has been forced to justify its existence by using words that talked about a plan of god.
And don't expect that to stop. Oh, government can remove the word god from its vocabulary totally, but government will always be forced to talk about exactly the same things government has always talked about when it chose to use the word god in its explanations of why government has to exist. Government is totally connected to the responsibility to control reality. That is what government is for! We can decide to eliminate the word god from our vocabulary totally, but we will still be talking about exactly the same things we used to talk about when we used the word god.
One of the defining characteristics of our nation today is we have become uncomfortable, in our political discussions, with the intrusion of the word god. In fact, it appears this is becoming one of the defining characteristics of the modern age in all the democratic nations. God is well on the way to becoming taboo as an acceptable subject in public political discourse.
We must grasp the fact that this discomfort with the intrusion of the concept of god in political discussions is a recent phenomenon that is a unique development in the history of politics on this planet. The significance of this change in American political discourse simply cannot be overemphasized because it seems to me that the root of our confusion as a nation, and the root of our inability to find a ground for agreement as citizens in this nation is the fact that our minds, and our language, are only capable of finding a definition for the purpose of government when that definition is clearly, and unequivocally, stated in terms of the will of god for government. If my diagnosis about the root of our confusion as a nation is correct, in order to find agreement about government in this nation, we've got to shake off this discomfort about allowing the word god to enter the discussion, and we've got to face the issue head on.
What we're talking about when we try to understand the thing called government is actually the will of god for government. There! It's out! We might separate Church and State but we can never separate government from the concept of the will of god. When we try, everything gets confused because there is no place that we can agree the discussion has to start. We can't find a starting place because we've ruled out in advance the only starting place for a discussion of the purpose of government that has ever existed on this planet. We might be smart, but we're not that smart. We can't just look at government today and decide we're going to invent a whole new vocabulary and expect everybody to learn it before we reach an agreement about government. Yet that is exactly what our secular communication leaders are insisting that the American people do: eliminate god from politics. Our language does not allow us to do that. When we try to eliminate god from our understanding of government, we find ourselves falling into a deep pit of disagreement created by our inability to find words that actually allow us to connect our minds to the thing called government. Now that is confusion.
The confusion begins to disappear when we realize that the concept called god and the concept called government share an inescapable connection: both concepts refer to First Causes. Cause and effect relationships comprise the stuff out of which reason and logic are composed. Just as god is always defined as First Cause in a universal context, government is always defined as first cause in an earthly context. In other words, in a universal context, God is seen to be the instrument through which cause and effect is controlled; in an earthly context, government is seen to be the instrument through which cause and effect is controlled. God and government will always be connected because in order for government to be justified in an earthly context, it has to be explained to be in harmony with First Cause in a universal context. Otherwise government will reasonably and logically be judged to be out of harmony with the First Cause in a universal context. Such a government is, by definition of reason and logic, an outlaw government.
Let me give you an example: Suppose a group of families is starving. Suppose these families live on an island, half of which is desert and the other half fertile. Obviously, the starving families live on the desert side of the island. On the other side of the island is a group of families who kill the starving families every time they venture onto the fertile land. The starving families cannot get the healthy families to give them access to the fertile land. In order to survive, the starving families invade the fertile land and fight to the death the families that refused them access. The starving families win control of the fertile land. They eat, and they live. But they still have a problem. They have no peace of mind. The things they had to do to survive were horrible things that carried with them consequences that eat at their ability to sustain a viable self-image. At this point, words become very important. People gifted in words stand up in the midst of the victorious people and say words that bring peace of mind to the victorious families. The words said are words that explain exactly why the actions taken by the victorious families were in harmony with the goal of all creation. Only such words can bring peace of mind at such times. These words are always words that point to the relationship between the plan of the victorious families and the plan of god. The plan of god is that concept that, by definition, includes the goal for which all the universe was created. When the victorious families are able to believe their actions were in harmony with the goal of all creation, peace of mind is restored and a viable self-image is possessed. I know that you see the parallel between my desert island story and the history of the United States of America. Please do not think that my example means that I believe the people who justified the authority of this nation in the beginning were amoral rationalizers who used words about the plan of God for government in a calculated attempt to create a psychological rationalization for an immoral act. That is not how I interpret the story. I believe that the evolution of government on this planet has been directly controlled by the power that created the universe, and I believe that the government founded by the founders of the government of the United States of America was actually working in harmony with the plan of god for government. In other words, I believe the words in the Declaration of Independence that define the plan of the Creator for government are true words--words that actually capture an accurate image of how objective reality is organized.
Here is the point: while the Founders of this nation were doing exactly the same thing every government has always done when it found itself in possession of viable land, the words used by the Founders of this nation were different words than any ever used on the face of the earth. Think about those words! They said that God intended for government to exist in order to protect the rights of all men! They said that government derived its just power from the consent of the governed! I want you to understand that this is a plan and a God that I can get very enthusiastic about. This is a plan and a God that makes me want to spread exclamation points all over every page I write. I am absolutely delighted that I woke up and found myself on that part of this island we call the earth where authority had been defined in such words. I assure you that what peace of mind I possess can be traced in small part at least to the fact that I am a citizen of a nation founded on such words.
I have been driven to write this book because my peace of mind was threatened. My peace of mind began to disappear when I realized that virtually no citizen in this nation actually understands that the words in the Declaration of Independence are the only words available to this nation that can provide us with peace of mind and a viable self-image. They are the only words that can provide us with those precious gifts because they are the only words ever uttered by authority in this nation that answer the foundational questions that every government has to give to its citizens.
Unless a human government can explain its authority to be in harmony with the orderly structure of the universe itself (God in the broadest meaning of the term), people will be unable to understand where government gets the right to impose its will on anyone. For this reason, every government created by people on the face of the earth has sought to explain itself, to justify its authority, by defining itself to be in harmony with the plan of God. That is, every government except the present government of the United States of America.
You and I both know exactly how god got kicked out of politics in the United States of America. The dominant Christian majority in this nation, and the lock that majority has had on political power throughout the history of this nation, became perceived by most people in our generation to be a threat to the Liberty of this nation. The elimination of god from political discussion seemed to be a necessary step in breaking the hold the dominant Christian majority had on the government. Unfortunately for us, we threw out the baby with the bath water.
But fortune has always had a way of smiling on the United States of America. Fortunately for us, the Founding Fathers of the United States of America were not confused about the necessity of defining the purpose of government with reference to the will of god. That's exactly what they did in the Declaration of Independence.
In order for you to understand how the present government of the United States has destroyed its own authority, you must understand that there is an inescapable relationship between God and government. Any government that tries to destroy that relationship will find itself, at some point in history, without any authority. That is what has happened today in the United States of America. When the present government of the United States began to separate itself from a foundation that clearly defined this government's relationship to the plan of God for government, this present government lost its authority. It lost its authority because it has lost its ability to provide the citizens of the nation with peace of mind. With the destruction of peace of mind, there was no foundation that could sustain a viable self-image for the citizens of the United States of America. Symptoms of amnesia began to spread across this land. At this time, this nation is in the process of trying on various alternative self-images in hopes of finding one that can provide the missing peace of mind. Now, as always, there are various options available to people, various words designed to justify government that can be chosen by a people looking for peace of mind.
Most of the citizens of the United States are involved in this search and they blithely presume that they are at liberty to pick and choose any of the alternative definitions of the plan of god for government, and once having chosen, are at liberty to insist that their choice be implemented as the plan of god for the government of the United States of America. They presume that all they have to do is convince the majority of voters to agree with their definition of the plan of god for government and then they will have the authority to impose their plan of god on all the citizens of this nation.
That is the most dangerous presumption that can be made by any citizen of the United States of America. That presumption is founded on the idea that the citizens of the United States of America have the right to make any changes the majority wills in this nation, and the minority is obligated to accept as law that which the majority wills. That is a most dangerous presumption because it is a God Damned lie.
The Founders of the United States of America never for a split second thought that the majority would have uncontested control over this nation. They did everything in their power to design an instrument of government that could not be easily perverted by the majority into an instrument of oppression. They insisted on a Bill of Rights in the Constitution that defined clear parameters beyond which the ruling majority could not go.
And they designed the mechanism of change within the Constitution itself to be so difficult to alter that a huge majority within the various governmental structures would be required to bring about fundamental change. But finally, as the fail-safe mechanism designed to thwart the will of a nation gone beastly, the Founders left us the Declaration of Independence.
And there it sits today enshrined in a glass cage in Washington, DC. It is an innocuous looking document. But the words it contains are explosive stuff. They are dangerous words. They are words that tell people who believe their duty lies in protecting the nation founded by the people who created the United States of America that a time can come when people must begin to kill people who try to oppress them. The document says the people have a right to do it; they have a duty to do it. People who presume to create a Revolution in the United States of America that alters the plan of god for the government of the United States defined in the Declaration of Independence must understand that there are people in this nation who will fight to the death before they allow such a Revolution to occur in this nation. This book is an attempt to help all the citizens of the United States understand that this is the kind of nation we live in. We inherited it. And this is the way it is. This nation cannot undergo foundational alteration without returning to the Court of Last Resort. The real citizens of the United States of America will insist on carrying the case to that Court before any majority, no matter how great their numbers, can destroy the nation created by the Founders of the United States of America.
Today we stand gazing into an abyss. Peace of mind has been destroyed in this nation because the self-image of the nation has been destroyed. What are we to do?
There will be many in the United States today who will allege that the Declaration of Independence is an anachronism that is utterly out of place in our nation today. If you are a real citizen of the nation created by the Founders of the United States of America, please note these people very carefully as you encounter them. They are the enemies of the United States of America. They are our enemies because they do not understand that it is impossible for a nation to have peace of mind unless the government of the nation is understood by the citizens of that nation to be operating in harmony with the plan of god for government.
Or perhaps they do understand. There are two groups of people who have destroyed peace of mind in the United States of America. One group operates out of ignorance: they simply do not understand how authority was created in this nation, therefore they ignore the laws that justify this nation's authority. This group is dangerous to the nation created by the Founders but they are not potentially fatal. The real citizens of the United States who have simply ignored the truth about the United States of America can be expected to cooperate once they understand the truth. The information in this book can be expected to prevent them from continuing to act like enemies of the nation Founded by the founders of the United States of America.
But there is another group who understands everything that I have written in this book and are still committed to destroying the ideas in the Declaration of Independence as the foundation for authority in this nation. These people, most of whom are technically citizens of the United States of America, are absolutely committed to destroying the nation created by the Founders of the United States of America. Let me introduce you to them.
Chapter Eleven
THE CONSPIRACY TO DESTROY THE CREATOR
I know as sure as I'm sitting here that most people who have read this far are becoming convinced that I am a distraught alarmist who has utterly misinterpreted the signs of the times. While few will disagree with my analysis of the importance of the ideas in the Declaration of Independence to the self-image of this nation, most people simply do not see that there is a concerted effort to destroy the plan of god defined by the Founders of the United States of America in the Declaration of Independence. In fact, the moment I wrote the word "Conspiracy" in the Chapter title above, most people began to read my words, if they read them at all, with the greatest reservations.
The idea that there could be any sort of Grand Conspiracy operating in the world today has been pooh-poohed until the idea has attained the status of taboo. There are good reasons for this. The world has been bedeviled by Conspiracy Theories throughout recorded history that proved themselves to be utterly unfounded in fact. These theories "bedeviled" the world because they provoked fear of people who were, in fact, involved in no conspiracy at all. And, in many cases, the response of people to these conspiracy theories created great miscarriages of justice.
I am not trying to communicate to you a conspiracy theory. I can provide documentary evidence that there is a Grand Conspiracy occurring in the United States of America and throughout the world that is being conducted by the most powerful and influential people on this planet. That conspiracy is precisely designed to annihilate the idea of the Creator from the consciousness of everyone on this planet.
Before you dismiss my message out of hand, think about this: is it not interesting that the idea of a Grand Conspiracy has become taboo? Is it impossible for powerful people to conspire to accomplish a concerted goal? Obviously, it is not impossible. If it is not impossible, why have we been moved to treat the idea as taboo? If there was a conspiracy working around us, would it not be in the best interest of the conspirators to convince everyone that thinking about a Grand Conspiracy was taboo? Would that not be the most effective way to keep their conspiracy hidden?
Most people in this nation feel secure that there is no real intention among powerful people in this nation to utterly destroy the foundation of authority upon which this nation was erected.
The security you feel is an illusion. You are surrounded by powerful people who have decided their way of life requires that the idea of the Creator be destroyed in the mind of the people on this planet. If you will remember, the plan of god defined in the Declaration of Independence is precisely stated as the plan of the "Creator." It does not take great intelligence to understand that if the idea of the Creator is destroyed in the minds of the citizens of the United States, then the ideas in the Declaration of Independence will be effectively null and void. If you presently feel secure at this time that this nation is in a right relationship with the Creator, that security will disappear when you wake up and see that you are surrounded by people who are doing everything in their power to obliterate the idea of the Creator from the minds of everyone in this nation.
Now for a formal introduction: First, there is Joseph Campbell. From 1934 until his recent death, Joseph Campbell occupied a chair at Sarah Lawrence College. He is the author of several books which continue to be in print and available at your local Waldenbooks Store, or your local Dalton, or in the libraries of your local public high schools, colleges and universities. His books were published as a series that carried the title The Masks of God.
It is very possible that most of the people who owe their present self-image to Joseph Campbell have never understood his influence in their lives--I know I didn't--perhaps they have never even heard his name, but he, nonetheless orchestrated a plot that created a Revolution in the United States of America, a plot that has influenced virtually every citizen in this nation.
One of the more novel ideas presented by the New Age movement is the notion that an individual can become a "channel" through whom the spirits of dead people can communicate to others still alive. Joseph Campbell actually was a channel, an authentic channel, but he was not used as a communication device for disembodied spirits, he channeled words written down by both dead and living people. And the words he wrote were intended, based on his owns words, to provide us with access to a "...totally new type of non-theological revelation..."
Anyone with insight into the history of theology understands that few concepts are more central to the point of theology than the concept of revelation. Revelation is understood in theology to refer to the process through which God reveals Himself to mankind. Historically, theology has identified two types of revelation: general and special. General revelation occurs when individuals look at creation and see there an orderliness, a purposefulness, that convinces them of the presence of a Creator: special revelation refers to words written in books that claim to be words God utters through human agents, words "breathed" by God. Now, in light of the historical significance of the concept of revelation, for Campbell to talk about a "new type of non-theological revelation" proves he had some big plans indeed.
Here's how big: his influence created what you know as the New Age Movement, his influence created the New American Revolution and his influence may well be decisive in the new New World Order presently being constructed. (I say "new" New World Order for a reason. If you look on a dollar bill, located beneath the pyramid on the back of the bill, you will read Latin words that translate as "New World Order." The government created by the Founders of the United States of America ushered in a New World Order. That is why you find those words on your dollar bill. When you hear talk about a New World Order today, understand that the words you hear are referring to a new New World Order, not the one referred to on the back of your dollar bills.)
Anyone who wants to understand the world as it approaches the third millennium would do well to pay close attention to Joseph Campbell. Millions of the most influential people on this planet have already done so. In fact, so many people have been influenced by the ideas of Joseph Campbell, ideas obtained either directly through his books or through the influence of Campbell's disciples, that his explanation of reality now forms the self-image of the consensus presently ruling the United States of America. For this reason, Campbell's books will either someday be understood to be the most influential books written in the twentieth century, or will vanish as dead letters from a confused and anguished time in history.
These two radically different outcomes are possible because self-image is never a static reality; it changes: that is one constant in human nature. How Joseph Campbell will be viewed by history will be determined by how you respond to his ideas. You will determine whether Joseph Campbell is someday viewed as the preeminent influence in the twentieth century, or as just another footnote in the history of the United States of America.
It is not my purpose in this book to explain to you exactly how Joseph Campbell accomplished his Revolution that changed the self-image of the United States of America. My purpose at this time is to alert you to the fact that most professional communicators in this nation are consciously committed to destroying the idea of the Creator in the United States of America. If you are interested in understanding exactly how Campbell created a Revolution, you will need to obtain my book Joseph Campbell: Creator of the New New World Order. In that book, I have traced the step-by-step method Campbell used to convince the vast majority of college-educated people in this nation who came of age after the Second World War that the Creator is an impossible idea that no educated person would actually believe. These are the people who are today conspiring to destroy the idea of the Creator in the United States of America and the world.
The information you receive from virtually every professional communicator in this nation: teachers, preachers, media personalities, artists in all the arts, and, most important, politicians is calculated to lead you to abandon the idea of the Creator from your consciousness. If you listen closely, you will hear words, and you will see actions, that will show you that the vast majority of professional communicators in this nation are committed to obliterating the idea of the Creator from the United States of America. You will hear those words, and you will see those actions, because the vast majority of the professional communicators working in the United States of America today are disciples of Joseph Campbell.
The last national public appearance made by Joseph Campbell was in a series of programs aired on PBS in 1987 and 88 hosted by Bill Moyers. In the series Campbell summarized the ideas he had published in the mid-sixties and had reiterated and expanded in various volumes published subsequent to his death. Rarely has a more polished, more erudite, more genteel, more socially acceptable figure been seen on national television. As Moyer's questions led Campbell to walk us through the history of his work and influence on the thinkers in this nation, it became impossible to doubt that here was a man history will have to reckon with. As he spoke to us from the perspective given him by his eighty years of life on Earth, it was obvious that Joseph Campbell was ready to leave this Earth as a satisfied man. He had intended to create a New World Order by leading the people of earth to believe in a New God. And he knew he had accomplished his purpose. When Joseph Campbell died, he died a satisfied man because he knew his work had created a Revolution in the United States of America. He died satisfied because he knew that he had succeeded in destroying the idea of the Creator as the foundation upon which authority rested in the United States of America, and he knew that his disciples were absolutely committed to carrying on his work.
Today the disciples of Joseph Campbell occupy the vast majority of positions of power and influence in this nation. Because they are committed to destroying the idea of the Creator in this nation, they will not stop until the principles in the Declaration of Independence have been utterly obliterated from the minds of the citizens of this nation. As time passes, these people will force the real citizens of the United States of America to decide whether they are to be ruled by the disciples of Joseph Campbell or whether they will be ruled by the Law defined by the Founders of the United States of America.
I have written to alert you of these facts because the disciples of Joseph Campbell are absolutely committed to ruling in the United States of America. Unless they are controlled by the citizens of the United States of America, no alternative will be left for those who are committed to protecting the government created by the Founders of the United States of America but War. We have time and the opportunity to avoid that alternative.
Chapter Twelve
GETTING OUT OF THIS MESS
It's easy to say: all we have to do to get out of this mess is see that the plan of god for government defined in the Declaration of Independence is implemented by the government of the United States of America. Doing that, authority will be restored to the government, and this crisis of authority will pass.
Easy said, not so easy done. It will be hard to get out of this mess because there are two monolithic world-views, two orthodoxies, two definitions of reality, poised and waiting to squash anybody who tries to return us to the foundation upon which authority once rested in the United States of America. On the one side, we have all those people in this nation who have decided that there is no Creator out there somewhere. They have decided that it is a lie that there is a Being with a Mind and a Will that all creation is obligated to obey. This camp believes that the only beings in this universe that actually have a mind capable of deciding what all creation must do is people themselves. On the other side, we have all those Christians, Muslims and Jews in this nation who have decided that their interpretations of the rules in their Holy Books are the only foundation that the authority of the government of the United States has a right to rest upon. As things now stand, virtually every citizen in this nation presently involved in politics stands in one of those two camps.
See what I'm up against? Each of the camps I spotlighted above represents a plan that is different from each other and different from the plan defined in the Declaration of Independence. And both camps are doing everything in their power to seize the reins of power in the government of the United States of America so they can ram their respective plans down the throat of every citizen of the United States.
Not to worry. I've got the authority to stop them. I just don't have the power. Yet. I'll get the power when the real citizens of the United States of America start doing our duty. That's when we'll get out of this mess.
DOING OUR DUTY
The Founders of the United States of America defined the duty of the citizens of this nation in words that any fourth grader can understand. Maybe it's time to read them again: "When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation--
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness--
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,--
That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such forms, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes, and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security...And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor."
What kind of government do we have the right and the duty to throw off? "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them to absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security..."
Abuses and usurpations defines precisely the evils that we have grown so accustomed to in this nation that we no longer even recognize them as evil. The two orthodoxies that presently rule virtually every citizen in this nation continually abuse and usurp the authority of government sanctioned by the author of government and consented to by the Founders of this nation. But we do not understand these abuses, we do not perceive these usurpations. We do not recognize that these abuses and usurpations all have exactly the same goal: the creation of an Absolute Despotism in the United States of America. In our ignorance of these events, we become powerless to do our duty as citizens of the United States of America. As the Founders indicated, people are disposed to suffer evils as long as they are sufferable. Only when it becomes clear that people are being led toward Absolute Despotism will people take responsibility to something as dangerous and solemn as overthrowing a government. If we will only open our eyes, we will see that we are being led inexorably toward Absolute Despotism. Only then will we do our duty.
Chapter Thirteen
GOVERNMENT AS THE BEAST
Absolute Despotism is a form of government that allows no definition of reality other than that promulgated by the government. Under Absolute Despotism, the point of view of the individual is to be destroyed, when that point of view disagrees with the view generated by Absolute Despotism.
The central danger of government throughout all of recorded history is seen in the fact that all forms of governments tend toward Absolute Despotism. This tendency occurs because government, by definition, is empowered to force people to obey the definition of reality spawned by government. Since government is seen to be that part of reality that has the right to force people to obey, the temptation has always existed for government to be understood to have the unquestionable and unchangeable right to force everyone to obey everything uttered by government, which is of course Absolute Despotism.
The central dilemma of government can be stated as a question: how can people be forced to obey without at the same time bringing them under Absolute Despotism? In answer to that question, the Founders of the United States of America suggested that people be offered a plan of God that was so wonderful that they would want to obey. With such a plan in hand government would be empowered to act as government and would never need to exercise despotic powers to force the people to obey. Since we've forgotten this plan, the government of the United States of America has gone a long way toward becoming the Beast.
It is inevitable that government will become the Beast unless government pursues exactly the same planned authorized by the author of governments. Divorced from that plan, government is nothing more than people who hold the power to force other people to obey. Inevitably, people who hold such power, unfettered by any duty to obey a plan that forces them to respect the rights of others, become Beasts--Ravenous Beasts capable of doing the most horrible things that can be accomplished by any creatures who ever saw the light of day. They make Tyrannosaurus Rex look kittenish in comparison. Choose you own favorite historical examples that document this point.
There are people in the United States of America who will fight to the death before they surrender to Absolute Despotism. And this is the real and immediate danger this nation now faces. When the decision that received sanction in the Revolutionary War, and whose sanction was reconfirmed in the Civil War was overthrown by the Present Revolution, this nation once again began to move toward the Court of Last Resort. It is this knowledge that drives me to see more each day that few things can be judged more important than informing the people of this country of what sanction can cost if we decide to abandon the original sanction provided to the government of the United States. If we, the people, decide to abandon the principles upon which this government was founded, our government is without the sanction provided by the Revolutionary War. If we institute new principles as the foundation of the government of the United States, and in effect create a new government, those principles will have to receive sanction in the only way a new government can receive sanction.
This is a truly frightening prospect because it is a real possibility. There are people in this nation who define their duty in precisely the same way the Founders of this nation defined duty. Whenever a people suffer a long train of abuses by an existing government that demonstrates that government is unwilling to abide by the plan of the Creator for government defined in the Declaration of Independence, then, as the Founders declared, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to overthrow such a government and replace it with Guards that will institute the Creator's plan for government. I know this is a real possibility because I am one of those people.
I am writing to you because you, like me, are children of the Founders of the United States of America. I can believe you will not participate in doing anything that will make it inevitable that this nation will engage in Civil War if you understand that War will cost the lives of people you know, people you once laughed with, people you once cried with, people you once shared a nation with. Please believe me when I say this book is not an exercise in rhetoric. This is a last ditch attempt to alert the people I love to the fact that we have made a terrible mistake. We have forgotten that it was our primary duty as citizens of the United States to protect and defend the government we inherited from our forefathers. By failing to understand our duty, we have allowed this nation to move itself away from the foundation that provides sanction for every action of this government--the principles in the Declaration of Independence. Without that sanction, this nation will become, more each day, an unauthorized exercise in tyranny that will motivate more and more people to seek relief from its tyranny.
Without the plan of god defined in the Declaration of Independence as the authority that guides all the actions of government, the government of the United States becomes an instrument of the majority. The Constitution of the United States of America can theoretically be altered to allow the vast majority of citizens to do anything. Unless we understand ourselves to be citizens in a nation that is subject to a plan of god that is committed to protecting the rights of all citizens, there can be no peace of mind in this nation for any person who perceives themselves to be a member of a minority outside the mainstream. Minorities become threatened at the very core of their being.
In such a context, there is a remedy available to all those who define their duty in accordance with the definition adopted by the Founders of the United States of America. According to the Law in the Declaration of Independence, citizens of this nation have the right and the duty to overthrow a government that propels itself by the train of Absolute Despotism.
That remedy is horrible to contemplate. But obviously I am contemplating it. My prayer is that as you contemplate it with me you will see that anything we have to do to avoid it is a small price to pay.
And it can be avoided! But to avoid it we must wake up and overcome the institutionalized ignorance all around us. That's all it takes! We must agree on where the authority of the government of the United States of America is founded.
When we talk about agreeing on anything to do with this thing called government, we are really talking about trying to find a song about government that we can all agree to sing in harmony. Agreement is nothing more than a meeting of the minds in which harmony is established. Harmony is nothing more than a word that describes the sound produced by agreement. This harmony, the harmony of agreement, is established because the individual minds decide to sing the same song in the same key.
We were created to inherit a song about government, and to sing that song together. The words to that song are written in the Declaration of Independence. We must sing that song! We must become equipped as citizens to understand where authority comes from in this nation. We must be willing to raise our voices in every nook and cranny of this land telling everybody around us about the foundation upon which this government must rest if we are to avoid Civil War in the United States of America. And we must pray that we, the people, are truly the children of our forefathers, truly the children of the Founders of the United States of America, and not some bastard interlopers from a foreign regime. For, if we are truly the children of the Founders of the United States of America, we will find harmony once again in this nation. If not, there will be hell to pay. If at this point you still don't understand what I'm talking about, stick around; you'll see for yourself soon enough.
Chapter Fourteen
HOW CIVIL WAR CAN BE AVOIDED
The only way Civil War can be avoided in this nation is to overthrow the power of the present government of the United States of America, a government controlled by disciples of Joseph Campbell. This can be accomplished by replacing every elected or appointed government official in this nation who is subject to the self-image created by Joseph Campbell with individuals committed to upholding and enforcing the Law that has its foundation in the principles defined by the Declaration of Independence.
Obviously this will take some time. But it can be done, it must be done, and it will be done unless we, the people, of the United States of America are hellbent on choosing to engage in another exercise in mutual mass destruction.

Admittedly, the scope and size of the remedy prescribed is mind-boggling at first glance. I am suggesting that literally tens of thousands of government officials at every level of government--local, county, state, and federal--be replaced by individuals committed to upholding the Law created by the Founders of this nation and defined in the Declaration of Independence.
Any reasonable person would naturally shudder when first glancing at the awesome logistical details created by such a strategy. But reasonable and knowledgeable people, when they first hear my strategy, do more than shudder, they laugh as if I am telling a joke. They react as if they have just encountered one of the most preposterous ideas ever uttered in this nation. They laugh because they know something about how our nation actually works today, something that, at first glance, makes my strategy utterly inconceivable. They know that only Lawyers get elected to office in this nation.
Virtually every office of government in this nation past the local level is presently filled by lawyers. A tradition has developed in this nation that only lawyers are qualified to hold elected or appointed government office. This tradition has developed because we, the people, have become convinced that only lawyers actually understand government and the law.
This book is an indictment of the failure of Lawyers to understand what Lawyers were supposed to understand--the Law! Every word I have written in this book is designed to prove that the opposite is actually the case in this country today. Lawyers do not understand the Law! If they had understood, the Revolution that has occurred in this nation could not have occurred! In the light of all the evidence I have outlined in the book, the idea that only lawyers are qualified to hold elected and appointed office in the government of this nation is absolutely hilarious in a bizarre and macabre way. That idea suggests that the very people who have demonstrated their abject failure to learn the fundamental Truths about Law in this nation are the only ones qualified to defend and enforce the Law for we, the people. How could this Revolution have occurred if lawyers had done their duty under the Law? It couldn't. Yet people laugh at my ideas because they think people will always be subject to the idea that only lawyers are actually qualified to hold office in this nation. Perhaps I will yet have the last laugh. But it's too soon to tell because the idea persists that only lawyers can run for public office. Because that idea persists, people who read my ideas feel pessimistic when they realize the only way rightful authority can be restored to this nation is through a grand and total restaffing of government offices.
Such pessimism is totally unwarranted because many thousands of qualified people can be equipped in a short period of time to be ready to stand for election to public office in this nation. Where would we find qualified people to accomplish such a strategy? From people, like yourself, who have been led by the ideas in this book to return to the Foundation of Law in the United States of America. Those people, once they stand on the real Foundation of the Law in this nation, will begin to exercise the authority that comes to those who understand the truth about the Law in the United States of America. In the exercising of the rightful authority of the law in this nation, they will draw support from every real citizen of the United States of America. That support will take the form of election to public office.
These are the people who will Restore rightful authority to this nation!
Think about it! The only truly necessary qualification for a responsible government official in this nation is an understanding of the Law. If you have read this book, and grasped the facts I have outlined here, you understand the Law. In fact, you presently understand the Law better than virtually every Lawyer in this nation! If you grasp the points I have written in this book, you are presently better equipped and therefore better qualified than virtually any Lawyer in the nation to actually uphold and enforce the Law in the United States of America.
Now obviously few people will read this book and feel equipped to jump up and run for office. Much additional study and thought will be required before a candidate is prepared to undergo the rigors of the public examination candidates must undergo.
But this book is only the first step. This book is a preliminary sketch of the ideas that must be firmly grasped and understood before an individual can be equipped to be a public spokesperson and representative of the Law in this nation. As a first step, the reading and comprehension of this book is necessary. Unless the philosophy of the Law outlined in this book is comprehended, nothing further can be added that can lead to Restoration of rightful authority in this nation. But citizens who have found their duty defined by the Philosophy of the Law in the Declaration of Independence, will have access to further assistance in the performance of their duty.
In order for citizen-candidates to be equipped to defeat the Present Revolution and Restore this nation to its rightful authority, a series of workshops and seminars will be conducted throughout the nation. There will be two distinct seminars formats available: (1) a one-day program free to the general public designed to expose the public to the ideas in this book, and identify individuals interested in further study; and (2) longer workshops designed to train candidates to implement the principles of Law defined in the Declaration of Independence by educating the citizens of this nation about those principles. Finally, for those who become candidates striving to restore the rightful authority to this nation, an ongoing communication and training resource group will be provided that is designed to assist the prospective candidates in dealing with both the philosophical details of a protracted campaign and the day-to-day decisions any candidate must make about local issues.

Hopefully, after reading this far, you agree that the rightful authority must be Restored to the government of the United States. And hopefully, you now understand that it can be done. The only question remaining is Will it be done?

The Founders of this nation understood that government could only exercise just power when the governed gave their consent. Consent is nothing more than an act of will, an act of willful agreement to a goal. I have tried to define the goal created by the Founders of the government of the United States of America, the goal precisely defined by the Law in the Declaration of Independence. The decision you as an individual make about that goal will determine the destiny of the United States of America.
Are we to continue wandering around like an amnesia victim drifting ever closer to Absolute Despotism, or will we be Restored to the nation created by the Founders of the United States of America? The destiny of this nation is in your hands. How will you decide?
