TAMARAC, Fla. - A small fire at the office of a doctor who claims to be the state's most experienced provider of abortions was found to be arson, officials said.

Authorities said someone poured a flammable liquid early Sunday on Dr. Michael Benjamin's office door and through the mail slot. The fire burned itself out but caused smoke damage, sheriff's spokeswoman Liz Calzadilla said Friday. No one was injured.

Sheriff's detectives, the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were investigating.

Authorities had not found any link to an anti-abortion group, but "due to the fact that this doctor does perform abortions it causes us concern," Calzadilla said.

Vicki Saporta, president of the National Abortion Federation. She said that Sunday's was the first abortion-related arson attack in the country this year.
