SOUTHERN BAPTISTS CLEARLY AGAINST ABORTION?

(Christian Gallery News Service, June 12, 2008) Hours after his election this week as the new President of the Southern Baptist Convention, Johnny Hunt held a Press Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. When asked about his plans to impact social problems, Hunt said he wanted Southern Baptist words to be backed up by action. "We are clearly against abortion..." he said.

CLEARLY AGAINST ABORTION

Was Johnny Hunt telling the truth when he said Southern Baptists are "clearly against abortion?"

In a word, no. As this article will demonstrate, Southern Baptists are not "clearly against abortion," instead they are prime example of how confusion about abortion is literally destroying the witness of Christians in this world. By examining the evidence that proves Johnny Hunt is lying to himself and the rest of the world about abortion, you will see why Southern Baptist churches, like most churches in Christendom, are in a flaming death spiral amazing to behold.

CHRISTIANS SAY ABORTION IS MURDER

Southern Baptists, like their President Johnny Hunt, say they believe that abortion kills a human being conceived by their God and created in His Image. In short, they say they believe abortion is murder.

The best way to examine whether Southern Baptist Christians are "clearly against abortion" is to compare Southern Baptist reaction to abortion to the reaction of ordinary citizens when they realize that young people have been murdered.

The people of Oklahoma and a vast number of people across the USA are even at this moment making the arrest of whomever murdered the girls pictured above one of the most important jobs anyone in the USA is presently participating in. Even though the vast majority goes about their daily business, in the back of the minds of millions of people there is the image of those murdered girls. And to show those millions of people are determined to stop such murders, their determination and resources have sent a cold-eyed contingent of people scouring the nation looking to arrest and punish whoever murdered those girls. All of that attention and all of that ferocious determination to stop the murderers proves conclusively that the vast majority of people in this nation are "clearly against" their murder. Clearly.

And now the President of the Southern Baptist Christians tells the world that they are "clearly against abortion."

How can Southern Baptists who claim that abortion is murder fail to treat abortion with the same kind of ferocious attention and immediate priority that the murder of the two Oklahoma schoolgirls received; that is, if they "are clearly against abortion"? In a world where people throw all the available resources of serious men and women armed to the teeth with deadly weapons and the determination to use them in their pursuit of the murderers of innocent people, the Southern Baptist response to abortion must be seen to be a source of confusion rather than light.

Abortions are occurring in and around the neighborhoods of Southern Baptists churches across this nation on a daily basis. Those abortions have been occurring for 35 years. What have Southern Baptists done about it?  Have Southern Baptists responded to the murder of this young girl so that the world knows they are "clearly against abortion?"

The fact that abortions have been legal for 35 years is the first clue telling you what Southern Baptists have done about it. But the failure to mount a serious political movement to overthrow legalized murder is not the only evidence showing Southern Baptists are not "clearly against abortion."

Visit any abortion clinic in this nation on any day of the week and if you find a Southern Baptist standing outside trying to deliver a murderous mother and her child from death, you will have found the needle in the haystack: Southern Baptists don't go to the death houses to deliver those being led to the slaughter.

For 35 years Southern Baptists have never done anything with the power to deter a mother from murdering her baby. In fact they have done the opposite: they have used their power as individuals and as a group to fight against people, like myself, who are trying to act like abortion is murder. It was the Southern Baptists of Georgia who turned their backs on the Rescue Movement when people came to Atlanta from all across the nation over ten years ago to deter people from murdering babies. Nationally known Southern Baptists Pastors like Charles Stanley did everything in their power to stop the rescuers. And as for me, I was raised a Southern Baptist but the last two Southern Baptist churches in which I was a member literally ran me off for trying to point out the confusion being sown by the Southern Baptist Christian response to legalized abortion. Finally I was effectively excommunicated by Southern Baptists Christians because my abortion abolition activities attracted "publicity" they found offensive to themselves.

Now the new President of the Southern Baptist Convention wants to convince people that Southern Baptists "are clearly against abortion."

What a lie! There is no more pernicious evil that can be broadcast across this nation than the message Southern Baptists send.

Why?

If Southern Baptists are "clearly against abortion" then all the Christians of the nation who copy them can also believe they are "against abortion" and the Southern Baptist definition of "against" becomes a recipe for eternal toleration of the murder of the least of God's children. In the Southern Baptist dictionary "against" equals "tolerate." To make another comparison, what people like the Southern Baptist Christians are doing in response to legalized abortion creates confusion so great that if Southern Baptists can claim to be against abortion then practicing homosexual males can claim to be against fellatio. Literally.

Southern Baptists are not against abortion, they tolerate it: that's the truth about Southern Baptists and abortion. For 35 years the Southern Baptist Christians in this nation have successfully tolerated what they admit to be the murder of millions of unborn people in the USA. With this active pattern of tolerating what they admit to be murder as the most obvious "witness" of Southern Baptists to the world, now Southern Baptists are surprised that their numbers are declining.

Is it possible for any person in Christ to think without crying about the confusion created when Johnny Hunt tells the world that Southern Baptists are "clearly against abortion" when the response of Southern Baptists to aborted babies has been a pattern of church-supported ignorance of those murders for 35 years with lip-service the only service millions of aborted babies received from Southern Baptists?

There is a point where lies create such confusion that people literally cannot tell the truth from a lie. Such confusion never comes from the Lord. When Southern Baptists say they are "clearly against abortion" yet do nothing but tolerate if for 35 years then they confuse the meaning of "against" and make it exactly equivalent to "tolerate." Such confusion baffles logic and reason and leaves people without either logic or reason to guide them to understand reality. The dictionary calls such a condition insanity.

Pastor Johnny Hunt concluded his inaugural press conference by saying, "My heart and passion is to see as many people as possible come to embrace Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. There is plenty of room under the umbrella of Southern Baptists for those who have the passion to see the gospel proclaimed....Maybe God's got Southern Baptists' attention that we'd better join hands for whatever time we have left to do what we need to do."

I have no doubt that Pastor Johnny Hunt means those concluding remarks. But Johnny Hunt does not have a clue how Satan has used legalized abortion to confuse him, and through him, confuse all the people he influences in the Southern Baptist convention and the world. I just pray the Holy Spirit will use this article to help him see the truth.
